Bills poetry was not only a source of inspiration to his many students, but the creative element within himself, to discover worlds beyond the thinking mind.
The following poem is a revised version as it appears within the Magic Bus.
The spirit in man, freed from the dark night of the soul.
Takes its fight of freedom and this flight is expressed in the verse below.
I have been nibbling at my tether for many a year,
The tether of beliefs guarding my mind.
As I find each belief into the air it is thrown,
To be looked at from each side, from above and below.
Then accepted as a belief and not of my own.
As my unwanted desires start to decline,
My mind starts to dance the dance of this life time.
At my first step I see my concept of distance,
As possessing of my mind, and not correct for an instant.
With this one last desire cast aside,
I am as free as an eagle to soar in the sky,
But this sky is the universe and all that can be,
A free human mind, not conscious of time.
As I sour through the cosmos, with my mind up on high,
Everything is new and bright, as if were just born.
And my view is as crystal clear as a spring morn,
Like a young maid in a meadow, on the wings of a dove.
Skipping and frolicking, amid yonder buttercups.
I can run between galaxies and step between worlds.
I can land on a star and hold the moon in my hand.
I can dive through the milky way, and on a single atom I can land.
I can push three worlds afore me, and bounce them off a sun.
Like a master snooker player, on a universal run.
The speed of a gazelle I will not need,
For I have eternity in a second, and tomorrow on a lead.
I can jump to the top of creation and look down on damnation,
And know nothing can be hidden from the bright eye of my mind.
I see the stars and galaxies of the cosmos,
As I see the oceans of the world,
With currents and mists and tides and waves,
Intermingled with the gentle swirls of the galaxies,
As islands in-between suns.
I see life on these islands with all eyes cast down,
Wearing black hats and brown coats,
Upon which true beauty cannot reflect, it can only drown.
Only the occasional dancer, with winged feet and fiery eyes,
Looks upward with head inclined,
For the knowledge of the universal mind.
As I look closely with the bright eye of my mind,
I see that I am the universe, and the universe is me.
I see that I am all life, and all life is me.
I can see forever for that is what I am.
I can see any season weather behind or in front.
I can know anything knowable, for all knowledge is here.
I see truth and beauty for all perfection is here.
Truth and beauty would blind if only seen by my eyes,
It needs the mind of the universe as a whole, to comprehend this.
My eyes are not needed, and nor are my ears,
To hear the angles in perfect harmony, with the wind in the trees.
I see only order and justice, as far as I can see.
The Flight of the Spirit, by Bill Mooney.
May you forever, shine your light, into this world.
Thank you.
